Venison breakfast hash served with fried eggs on a plate

Easy Venison Breakfast Hash

This venison breakfast hash is my go-to recipe for using up leftover venison meat from the night before! You can use any cooked venison meat and it is so good!
Prep Time 10 minutes

Total Time 20 minutes
Serving Size 4 People

Equipment

  • 1 Cast Iron Skillet (or other frying pan)
  • 1 Cutting Board for chopping ingredients on
  • 1 Chef's Knife
  • 1 Spatula for stirring and serving

Ingredients

  • 1 pound cooked venison meat you can use leftover roast, steaks, and even ground meat
  • 2 large potatoes I like to use reds or yellows for this recipe so I don't have to peel them, but any potato will work!
  • 1/2 large onion or a small onion depending on the size
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp salt & pepper (you can add more to your taste)

Instructions

  • Gather all of your ingredients, and get your pan heating up with the butter and olive oil in it. While you wait for it to heat up, chop the potatoes into small chunks, about the size of a kernel of corn.
  • Once the pan has heated, add the potatoes and seasonings, and cook them on medium-high heat for about 8 minutes or until they are starting to soften. While the potatoes are cooking, chop the onions and the venison meat.
  • Now that the potatoes are soft, add the onions and cook until they are starting to get translucent (about five minutes.) At this point, the potatoes should be starting to crisp up really nicely, if they aren't crisp yet, cook them a little longer.
  • Next, add the chopped venison. Stir and cook for about 2 minutes, or until the meat is heated fully through.
  • Now it's time to serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • This recipe is best served with a side of eggs and toast to make a complete meal!
  • You can add peppers to the mix if you'd like to make it more interesting
  • Some people like to top it with melted cheese as well
  • I like using cooked leftover venison meat to reduce waste, but if you don't have any on hand, you can just cook some up really quick.
